Mission
The purpose of the Foundation is to foster and promote the education of deserving
students oriented toward studies in engineering, science, technology, medicine, and
related fields.
Projects and
Activities
-
Grants have been provided to encourage studies in scientific and technological fields to
students at over 45 colleges and universities;
- To support the Annis Water Resource
Institute (AWRI) at Grand Valley State University in Michigan which specializes in water
quality studies using two large boats for continuing evaluation of Lake Michigan. In
addition, AWRI uses the most modern mapping and tools to evaluate the condition of and
changes to ground water in the Michigan area;
- To participate in and support Science
Fairs in the Indianapolis area and provide judges, usually from Scientech members who are
proficient in appropriate fields. The Central Indiana Regional Science Fair has been
managed by the University of Indianapolis for many years. U 0f I will continue this in
2008 and the Science Fair will be held at the State Fair Grounds at the 4-H buildings.
Details of this activity can be viewed at www.CIRSEF.ORG The D. J. Angus-Scientech
Foundation provides substantial support to this Science Fair;
- To provide prizes and educational trips
for Science Fair winners. For over 20 years winning students have been given an escorted
trip to Grand Valley Annis Water Resource Institute. There they view and participate in
water quality measurements on a research boat on Lake Michigan. This visit to AWRI
provides a unique learning experience that shows what some of the student's projects can
lead to;
- To support a Program with the Children's
Museum which gives teenage students practical training in a wide variety of subjects.
Thirty or more young people are enrolled in this program;
- To support other Science Education
activities for Indiana youth at all grade levels;
- To solicit community support for these
activities.
Disbursements in 2007 were budgeted for about $160,000, including $12,500 for incentive
awards to students in 16 Indiana colleges and universities; $32,000 in support of Indiana
Science Fair and Science Olympiad competitions; $16,000 in support of the D.J.Angus
research vessel and Grand Valley State University; $25,000 for five University
scholarships; $33,000 in support of the Children's Museum MAP program; and $37,000 in
support of other Science Education activities for Indiana youth.
Organization The Foundation is composed of a group of 24 members,
mainly past presidents of The Scientech Club. Meetings are held four times a year to
conduct Foundation business and distribute grants in accordance with IRS
regulations. University scholarships are available to Central Indiana students to
attend IUPUI, Purdue University(W.Lafayette), Indiana University(Bloomington),
Rose-Hulman (Terre Haute), and Grand Valley State University(Michigan) to pursue a
degree in engineering or recognized scientific field. Information and application
